Relay
About This Machine
Relay is an electro-mechanical pinball machine designed by Al Gregg for Bally Manufacturing Corporation, listed in Bally's internal records as Model 1006 with a scheduled release-to-production date of January 3, 1974, and described there as a '4-player novelty' - a designation Bally used for many of its pinball titles. Rather than an early Bally product, Relay dates from the mid-1970s, well into the company's decades-long history in coin-op manufacturing.
Bally's records show no wiring part number was ever assigned to Model 1006, and it does not appear in the game lists found in Bally's parts catalogs - evidence suggesting Relay may never have actually reached production, despite being scheduled for release. What became of the design afterward is unknown.
Because of this uncertainty, little else is documented about Relay's specific gameplay features, artwork, or theme. Its status as a possibly unproduced 1974 Bally design makes it a curiosity for collectors and historians tracking games that were planned but may never have made it to market.
