Winter Sports
About This Machine
Winter Sports is a 1978 solid-state pinball machine from Zaccaria, the Bologna, Italy manufacturer, and stands as one of the relatively rare skiing-themed pinball titles produced during the solid-state era. It offers players a distinctive experience compared to the more common sports, adventure, and licensed themes of the period.
Gameplay features three flippers alongside two pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 5-bank of drop targets, a kick-out hole, a spinning target, and a single drop target. Open-elbow inlanes let the ball pass between the inlane and outlane, adding an element of unpredictability to each shot. A standout feature is its bonus system: if the word 'ON' is lit on the backglass, the last ball's bonus score is multiplied tenfold.
The game's artwork was created by Lorenzo Rimondini, whose colorful, stylized graphics help capture the energy of winter sports. As a lesser-known title from one of Italy's notable pinball manufacturers, Winter Sports remains an interesting find for collectors seeking machines with distinctive themes outside the American mainstream.
