Right or Else
About This Machine
Right or Else is a 1937 electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine whose manufacturer remains unknown. A period Billboard advertisement claimed it was made by the same factory as Bolo and linked it to Pacent Novelty Manufacturing Company, but subsequent research shows Pacent had gone bankrupt earlier that year and could not have produced it, leaving the true manufacturer a mystery to this day.
Little is documented about Right or Else's gameplay, artwork, or designer. It was advertised as measuring 49 inches long and 23 inches wide, dimensions typical for pinball machines of the period. As with many surviving games from the 1930s, players aimed to score points by hitting targets using the machine's basic electro-mechanical mechanisms of the day.
The mystery surrounding Right or Else's true manufacturer makes it a particularly interesting case study in early pinball history, offering researchers a puzzle rather than a settled attribution.
