White Shark
About This Machine
White Shark is a 4-player solid-state (SS) pinball machine built by Bell Coin Matics of Bologna, Italy, with a serial number tag dated May 29, 1979. It is a conversion kit of Europlay's 'Jaws,' repurposing existing cabinets -- IPDB notes at least one known example reused a cabinet from Bally's 'Evel Knievel' -- for a new scuba-diving and shark theme.
Gameplay includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 5-bank of drop targets, four standup targets, a kick-out hole, and a spinning target. The playfield layout is reported to borrow elements from Bally's 1978 'Playboy.'
Artwork is credited to Michele 'Mike' Martinelli, though both the playfield and backglass also carry a second signature, 'B Kobra.' According to Martinelli, this represented assistants at the printing facility who sometimes helped complete artwork under time pressure, though he could no longer recall their names.
