About This Machine

Rawhide, released by Stern Electronics in April 1977, holds a notable place in company history: it was Stern's first 4-player game, continuing the production of a 2-player Chicago Coin 'Rawhide' after Stern acquired Chicago Coin Machine Company in December 1976. A 2-player companion version of the design was released by Stern as 'Stampede.' Only 1,200 units were produced.

Rawhide's gameplay is built around two flippers, two pop bumpers, and two slingshots, working alongside five standup targets, three rollover buttons, and a spinning target. Two kick-out holes are linked so that the lower one propels the ball to the upper one, and a captive ball adds an extra shot to plan around. Scoring tops out at a displayed maximum of 199,990 points per player, with an end-of-ball bonus and simple 3-chime sound plus knocker.

The game's American West theme was brought to life by artist Christian Marche, with design credited to Albin Peters, Jerry Koci, and Wendell McAdams. Beyond these credits, detailed documentation of the machine is sparse, leaving much of its specific reception undocumented.
