Boomerang
About This Machine
The Bally Boomerang (1974) is a well-regarded electro-mechanical pinball machine that embodies a spirit of adventure and cultural exploration. Designed by Jim Patla with artwork by Christian Marche, this four-player game was released in December 1974, with a confirmed production run of 2,585 units. Interestingly, the 2-player version of this design appeared as Bally's 1975 'Flicker', with different artwork.
The Boomerang boasts an impressive array of features, including two flippers, a single pop bumper, two slingshots, 12 standup targets, eight star rollovers, two captive balls, a spinning target, a kick-out hole, and an action ring. An end-of-ball bonus rewards skilled play, and the maximum displayed point score is 199,990 points per player. The sound package consists of three chimes, typical of the era.
Marche's colorful, vibrant artwork transports players to far-off lands in keeping with the game's foreign-peoples adventure theme. With its packed playfield and classic mid-1970s Bally construction, the Boomerang remains an appealing find for collectors and enthusiasts of the late electro-mechanical era.
