About This Machine

Yankee Baseball, manufactured by United Manufacturing Company of Chicago and released in February 1959, is a two-player electro-mechanical pinball machine with a baseball theme. It is essentially the same game as United's 1959 'Deluxe Baseball' but without the Replay or Match features, and it sold new for $880.

Gameplay centers on a Bat Game format combined with mechanical backbox animation and novelty-play elements, features common to United's baseball-themed titles of the era. The playfield includes three ramps, notably left as unpainted metal, giving the machine a distinctive industrial look compared to painted playfield elements typical of the period.

By 1959, electro-mechanical pinball technology was well established, having been in use since the early 1930s, and Yankee Baseball represents a late-generation EM title just before solid-state electronics would eventually transform the industry in the following decades. Specific details about the machine's designer have not been documented.
