Tiger Rag
About This Machine
Tiger Rag, released by Bell Games of Bologna, Italy, in 1984, is a solid state electronic pinball conversion kit built on Bally Midway's 1984 'Kings of Steel,' re-themed around a hunting/world-places concept. Some Tiger Rag units are documented as having been converted instead from Bally's 1978 'The Six Million Dollar Man,' with owners reporting that the original Bally cards and playfield were replaced with new Bell Games-branded artwork on metal sheets over the existing cabinet. As one of the few Italian companies producing pinball hardware in this era, Bell Games' conversion kits offer a glimpse into how European operators repurposed existing American machines rather than manufacturing complete new games from scratch.
Because Tiger Rag reuses the underlying playfield and rules of its donor machine, its gameplay mechanics largely follow whichever base game (Kings of Steel or The Six Million Dollar Man) was converted, dressed up with hunting-and-travel themed cabinet and backbox art in place of the original branding.
With Bell Games active only from 1980 to 1985, and surviving examples of Tiger Rag scarce, it remains a curiosity for collectors interested in the conversion-kit side of 1980s European pinball history.
