Tiny
About This Machine
Tiny is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine manufactured by Western Equipment & Supply Company of Chicago in December 1935. It's a table-top/counter-size, one-ball payout machine -- a compact cabinet, advertised at 22 inches long by 13 inches wide, meant to sit on a counter rather than the floor.
Its most notable feature is a battery-operated payout unit, letting the machine dispense winnings directly rather than requiring an operator payout. Interestingly, an early manufacturer's flyer appears to show a prototype unit -- it lists the bottom-hole payout as $2.00, with a small disclaimer nearby noting the actual payout was $1.50. According to the Encyclopedia of Pinball Vol. 2, delivered production games showed '150' at that hole rather than the flyer's prototype figure.
Little else is documented about Tiny's designer or artwork, but as a scarce miniature payout machine from the mid-1930s, it offers an interesting look at the compact, coin-operated novelties common to that era.
