About This Machine

Super Mario Bros. Mushroom World is a rare pinball machine from Premier Technology's Gottlieb division (running on the Gottlieb System 3 platform), released in June 1992. It is one of the few pinball machines built around a licensed video game franchise, adapting Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. into a redemption/novelty-play format rather than a standard replay game, with only 519 units confirmed produced.

Designed by Ray Tanzer, with art by David Moore, Constantino Mitchell, and Jeanine Mitchell, the game features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two banks of 5-bank drop targets, a vertical up-kicker, and a standup target. As a novelty game rather than a standard replay machine, its ruleset and payout structure differ from typical Gottlieb titles of the era.

While detailed accounts of its playfield rules are hard to find, its unusual combination of licensed video-game theming, novelty-game format, and relatively low production run make it a distinctive and collectible piece of early-1990s Gottlieb history.
