About This Machine

Miss Nessie, released by Sega Enterprises in March 1978, is a single-player solid-state electronic pinball machine with a Myth and Legend theme built around the Loch Ness Monster.

The gameplay on Miss Nessie is characterized by its challenging and unpredictable nature, thanks to the unique movement of the two "Nessie Targets" drop targets. These CPU-controlled targets slowly move up and down, taking about three seconds per transition, and rarely appear at the same time, making them difficult to hit consistently. Successive hits award escalating point values (10,000 up to 40,000), spot the extra ball target after three hits, and spot the special lane after four hits. Other notable features include a center kick-out hole disguised with a blue cover to simulate deep water, kicking the ball upward toward the pop bumpers, along with two flippers, two pop bumpers, seven standup targets, three star rollovers, and a drop-down cabinet with no slingshots.

The machine's art and theme transport players to the mysterious world of myth and legend, rendered in artwork typical of late-1970s pinball design, with bold colors and simple, effective illustrations.

Notable Features:
Flippers (2), Pop bumpers (2), Standup targets (7), Star rollovers (3), Drop targets (2), Kick-out hole (1). Has Your Number match feature. Drop-down cabinet. No slingshots. The center kick-out hole is hidden by a blue cover to simulate deep water. It kicks the ball upwards towards the pop bumpers. The two drop targets are known as Nessie Targets on this game and they slowly move up and down under control of the CPU, taking about three seconds to move up or move down. They move down when hit by the ball. They never appear at the same time and rarely appear when they do, more often being in the down position which makes it difficult to hit them many times. Each targets awards 10000, 20000, 30000, and 40000 for successive hits, spotting the EXTRA BALL target when hit three times and spotting the SPECIAL lane when hit four times.
