About This Machine

The Mexico 86, released by Zaccaria in July 1986, is a solid-state electronic (SS) pinball machine built around a soccer theme, timed to coincide with that year's FIFA World Cup held in Mexico. It runs on Zaccaria's Generation 2 hardware, using a 1B1165/2 MPU, five 8-digit display boards, a 1B11178 sound board, a 1B1166 driver board, and a 1B11167/0 power supply board.

Gameplay on the Mexico 86 is distinguished by its upper left mini-playfield, which features its own pair of flippers, five cylindrical drop targets, and a disappearing target -- adding an extra layer of shot-making challenge on top of the main playfield's soccer-themed action.

As one of many solid-state titles Zaccaria produced during the 1980s before the company ceased operations in 1987, Mexico 86 is a representative example of the company's later Generation 2-era output and its use of licensed sporting themes tied to real-world events.
