Pinball
About This Machine
'Pinball,' manufactured by Bell Games of Bologna, Italy in February 1983, is a boxing-themed, solid-state (Bally MPU AS-2518-35) conversion kit that plays identically to Zaccaria's 1982 'Pinball Champ '82.' It was originally offered as a kit for converting Gottlieb cabinets, with a flyer suggesting a Bally-compatible version was planned as well, though it's unconfirmed whether that version was ever released.
The machine features a multi-level design with two playfields and four flippers - two on the main playfield and two on the elevated, transparent upper playfield - along with two pop bumpers, two slingshots, and an elevated ball shooter lane. The 66cm-square backglass depicts a kangaroo in boxing gloves standing over a knocked-out human opponent, tying into the Sports - Boxing theme.
Little is documented about who created the specific conversion kit artwork, but as a Bally-licensed reskin of an existing Zaccaria design, Pinball offers an interesting case study in how manufacturers repackaged popular playfields for new markets in the early 1980s.
