Roughriders
About This Machine
Roughriders, manufactured by F. W. Wettzel Novelty Works in August 1939, is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine about which relatively little documentation survives. Wettzel appears to have been a short-lived manufacturer, making surviving examples of its games uncommon today.
Specific gameplay details, rules, and scoring for Roughriders are not documented. As a pre-1947 EM machine, it would have predated the invention of the flipper, relying instead on plunger shots and the layout's targets and lanes to generate scoring, in keeping with pinball design conventions of the late 1930s.
No theme or artwork details are documented for Roughriders, which was not unusual for games from smaller manufacturers of the period. Its scarcity and the limited historical record make it a machine of interest primarily to collectors and researchers of early EM pinball.
