Space Shuttle
About This Machine
Space Shuttle is a 1980 solid-state pinball machine from the Italian manufacturer Zaccaria, released in September of that year with a space exploration theme fitting for the era of NASA's real Space Shuttle program. It supports up to four players and runs on Zaccaria's first-generation MPU hardware.
Gameplay centers on two flippers, four pop bumpers, and a trio of 3-bank drop targets, along with a spinning target that adds an extra layer of challenge. Two kick-out holes round out the shot selection, with one of them protected by a set of in-line drop targets along the left lane. The game does not feature multiball. The backglass and playfield artwork were created by artist Lorenzo Rimondini, whose work is typical of Zaccaria's colorful late-1970s/early-1980s output.
Little information is available about the specific designer of Space Shuttle's rule set or its production numbers, but the machine remains a representative example of Zaccaria's space-themed solid-state lineup from the early 1980s, of interest to collectors of European pinball from the period.
