About This Machine

Silver Spray, manufactured by Baker Novelty and Manufacturing Company in October 1941, is a one-player, flipperless electro-mechanical pinball machine with a nautical, sailing-themed design.

As a flipperless game, Silver Spray relies on plunge strength and careful cabinet nudging rather than flipper control. Its playfield centers on 18 passive bumpers, which score on contact without needing player-triggered activation, giving the game a tactile, reflex-driven feel typical of the pre-flipper EM era.

Silver Spray's sailing and nautical theme, evoking boats and water sports, was a departure from the more common sports and novelty themes of the period. As one of the surviving examples from Baker Novelty's brief 1939–1941 production run, it offers collectors a window into the flipperless pinball designs that preceded the industry-wide flipper revolution of the late 1940s.
