Blue Chip
About This Machine
Blue Chip, designed by Gordon Horlick with artwork by Lloyd Rognan, was manufactured by Williams Electronics beginning in January 1976. This single-player electro-mechanical game takes on an unusual theme for pinball — the stock market — and had a confirmed production run of 2,150 units.
The playfield features two flippers, two pop bumpers, and two slingshots working in tandem with eight standup targets and two spinning targets. Two kick-out holes add an extra layer of interest, and an end-of-ball bonus rewards careful play throughout the ball. Sounds are provided by three chimes and a knocker.
Like a number of Williams games of the era, Blue Chip was convertible between replay and add-a-ball operation, allowing operators to configure it for local regulations. With its distinctive stock-market artwork and solid feature set, it stands as a representative example of mid-1970s electro-mechanical design from Williams.
