Shuffle
About This Machine
The Shuffle, manufactured by Baker Novelty and Manufacturing Company in July 1940, is an electro-mechanical, single-player pinball machine from the short-lived Baker Novelty company, which operated from 1939 to 1941.
As with many pre-war EM machines, Shuffle predates the invention of player-controlled flippers (introduced in 1947), so its gameplay would have relied on plunging, table skill (nudging), and electromechanical scoring elements such as bumpers and switches rather than flipper control. Specific details of its layout, theme, and notable features are not well documented.
Despite the scarcity of information, Shuffle's rarity and its origin from one of the pinball industry's more obscure early manufacturers make it a notable piece for historians studying the pre-flipper era of the game.
