Short-Stop (New York Model)
About This Machine
Short-Stop (New York Model) is a rare Williams electro-mechanical baseball-themed novelty game, manufactured in April 1958 as Model 205. Williams' documentation for the model is inconsistent: some records list it as "N.Y. Baseball" or "New York Baseball," suggesting a non-replay novelty version, while surviving examples bearing that specification are branded "Short-Stop." A replay version with a match feature was released the same year as Williams' 'De Luxe Short-Stop.'
Gameplay-wise, Short-Stop is built for two players and centers on three ramps made of unpainted metal, giving players multiple paths across the baseball-themed playfield. As an electro-mechanical machine, it relies on relays and switches typical of late-1950s pinball rather than solid-state electronics.
Little else has been documented about the machine's specific design or artwork. Its ambiguous naming history and its relationship to the replay 'De Luxe Short-Stop' make it an interesting curiosity for collectors interested in Williams' late-1950s baseball-themed output.
