Locomotion

Zaccaria's Locomotion, released in September 1981, is a solid-state (SS) pinball machine from the Bologna-based Italian manufacturer, with a railroad travel theme and artwork by Lorenzo Rimondini -- playfield art notable for its use of American flag bunting and USA symbolism despite the game's Italian origins.

Gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, three standup targets, and three sets of drop targets (one 4-bank and two 3-banks). The right dual inlanes, an elevated ball shooter, and train sound effects reinforce the railroad theme, while a separate backglass display shows the game's high score. A countdown timer begins once the last ball enters the outhole, adding urgency to the closing moments of play.

Specific information on Locomotion's designer has not survived, but its combination of an elevated shooter, layered drop-target banks, and thematic sound design make it a distinctive entry in Zaccaria's early-1980s solid-state lineup.
