Jai-Alai..
About This Machine
The Jai-Alai, produced by Segasa d.b.a. Sonic in January 1978, is a notable addition to the world of electro-mechanical pinball machines. Very few units are known to have been produced, making it a scarce find among collectors and enthusiasts drawn to its unique blend of gameplay and cultural significance. This sports-themed machine takes its name from the Basque region's popular sport of Jai Alai (also known as Basque Pelota), in which players use long scoops to catch and hurl a ball at high speed.
The Jai-Alai boasts an array of distinctive features: 2 flippers, 2 pop bumpers, 2 slingshots, and 5 standup targets provide multiple paths for players to navigate the game's layout. A spinning target and a horseshoe lane add extra challenge, and the game rewards players with an end-of-ball bonus and six-digit scoring.
The Jai-Alai's design and art pay homage to the sport of Jai Alai. As one of the few EM games known to originate from Spain via Segasa/Sonic, it offers a glimpse into the lesser-known history of international pinball manufacturing, making it an intriguing addition to any collection.
