Fantasy
About This Machine
The 1982 Fantasy by Bell Games of Bologna, Italy is not an original design but a conversion kit built on top of Bally's 1981 title 'Centaur,' repurposing that machine's hardware — including a Bally AS-2518-35 MPU — under a new Fantasy theme and playfield.
Gameplay retains Centaur's four-player, solid-state feature set: two flippers, two pop bumpers, two 4-bank drop targets, 4-in-line drop targets, five standup targets, and 5-ball multiball. A recessed red target in the playfield's upper right corner is held briefly in place by a magnet beneath the surface, and bounce-back outlanes let players nudge a draining ball back into play. One quirky detail of the conversion kit is an added digit at the end of each score display — actually a fixed illuminated '0' on a plastic overlay — designed to give the illusion of a higher score than the game actually tracks.
As a conversion rather than a from-scratch design, Fantasy's theme and artwork were applied over existing Bally hardware, a common practice among European operators looking to refresh older cabinets. Little further documentation exists on the specific artist behind the reskin.
