Dixieland
About This Machine
Dixieland, designed by Don Hooker for Bally Manufacturing Corporation, is a single-player electro-mechanical bingo machine and notably the last EM bingo machine Bally produced — the company made only one more bingo title afterward, the solid-state 'Continental' (1980). Bally documents show a release-to-production date around March 1979.
As a bingo machine, Dixieland's gameplay centers on six cards, with players aiming to complete winning patterns using its Double-Double Feature, Magic-Numbers, and Diagonals scoring options, aided by 25 trap holes on the playfield and an 11-coin maximum play. These mechanisms were hallmarks of the bingo pinball genre that Bally had refined over decades.
No specific theme is documented for Dixieland, and little else is known about its design or artwork. As the final EM bingo machine from a major manufacturer nearing the end of that genre's run, it holds a notable place for collectors and historians tracing the twilight of electromechanical bingo pinball.
