About This Machine

Despite carrying the manufacturer name 'Bally' and often appearing on pinball lists under the name 'Club House,' this 1937 machine is not actually a pinball machine - it is an upright, 7-coin console slot machine built by Bally Manufacturing Corporation, officially titled 'Bally's Club House.' It was announced in the October 16, 1937 issue of The Billboard as accommodating anywhere from one to seven players.

The machine used 5-cent play with a 7-coin multiple and a console cabinet design, and its backglass shares the same outdoor scene as Bally's 1937 machine 'Fleetwood.' Bally's own documentation lists the game under two model numbers, 184 and later 197, with subtle cosmetic differences between early and later production runs - including changes to the lettering color, the coin payout drawer shape, and the artwork surrounding the horse selections.

Because it is a payout slot machine rather than a pinball game, Club House occupies an unusual place in pinball reference catalogs, included largely due to its manufacturer and its historical association with Bally's early equitation/horse-racing themed output.
