Base Hit
About This Machine
Base Hit, manufactured by Williams Electronics in April 1967, is an electro-mechanical (EM) baseball-themed pinball machine and part of a long line of baseball-themed EM machines dating back decades earlier in the industry. This is the replay version of the game; a novelty-play variant was released the same year as Williams' 'Score Board.'
The gameplay is centered around hitting eight hanging targets to score points, with the goal of achieving extra innings by hitting all of them. Three unpainted metal ramps provide additional scoring opportunities, and players can earn a Grand Slam bonus by hitting the bullseye target, which also feeds into the Score To Beat feature for earning a Special. The plastic laminate playfield and front moulding, paired with the bare metal ramps, give the machine a distinctive look among EM games of the era.
With only one bell and a knocker for sound effects, Base Hit provides an authentic representation of late-1960s EM pinball design. Its baseball theme and mechanical charm make it an interesting example of the many sports-themed machines Williams and its competitors produced throughout the electro-mechanical era.
