About This Machine

Big Valley, designed by Ted Zale and manufactured by Bally in May 1970, is a four-player electro-mechanical game with an American West theme and artwork by Christian Marche. A confirmed 2,500 units were produced, and a special version was built for the German market.

Big Valley's features include two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, and two kick-out holes, along with a left kicker lane, a right ball return lane with upper and lower gates, and an up-post between the flippers. Its standout feature is 3-ball multiball: Big Valley is the only Bally electromechanical pinball machine to combine multiball with 3-inch flippers, a genuine rarity in the company's EM catalog.

From an aesthetic perspective, Big Valley captures the spirit of the American West through Christian Marche's bold, stylized artwork, and the manufacturer produced backglasses in both crystal glass and Plexiglas. Its distinctive gameplay and historical footnotes continue to attract enthusiasts of Bally's electromechanical era.
