About This Machine

Shaq Attaq is a 1995 pinball machine from Gottlieb (produced under parent company Premier Technology), designed by Jon Norris with artwork by Constantino and Jeanine Mitchell. Its main draw is its official license featuring NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, making it one of the relatively few pinball machines built around a real professional athlete.

The gameplay is fast-paced, built around four flippers and up to three-ball multiball, along with drop targets and a vari-target that reward accurate shooting. A swinging basket toy on the playfield reinforces the basketball theme and gives players a physical target to aim for. Sound design by Craig Beierwaltes and music by Duane Decker round out the game's basketball-arena atmosphere, with dot-matrix animations by Daryl Moore and Rand Paulin.

Shaq Attaq arrived during the final stretch of Gottlieb's history as a pinball manufacturer — the company would cease production entirely the following year, with 1996's Barb Wire serving as its last title. With 3,380 confirmed units produced, Shaq Attaq remains a sought-after piece for collectors interested in licensed sports pinball and the closing chapter of the Gottlieb name.
