Yankee Doodle
About This Machine
Yankee Doodle is a rare pinball machine manufactured by Marvel Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Illinois, released in August 1945 during the company's short 1944-1948 run. It is a World War II-era conversion of Chicago Coin's 1940 game "Sport-Parade," a common practice at the time as manufacturers reworked existing cabinets under new names and themes amid wartime material shortages.
As a single-player EM machine from before the invention of the flipper (which did not arrive until 1947), Yankee Doodle's gameplay would have relied on skillful plunging and playfield tilt rather than flipper control, in keeping with EM machines of its era.
Little is documented about Yankee Doodle's specific design, art, or theme, likely due to the limited surviving records from wartime-era manufacturers. Marvel Manufacturing operated for only four years before ceasing production, which may have contributed to the machine's obscurity. Nonetheless, it stands as a reminder of how pinball manufacturers adapted during the WWII years.
