About This Machine

1962 World Series is an electromechanical (EM) baseball-themed pinball machine from Williams Electronic Manufacturing Corporation, released in January 1962. It is built around a baseball motif and includes a mechanical backbox animation, one of the more elaborate features Williams offered in this era.

The playfield includes three red ramps, and gameplay is built around baseball scoring: a Super Home Run scored in the backbox adds an extra inning and awards 3 or 5 replays (an operator-adjustable option), while beating the previous high score awards 5 replays. A Grand Slam Home Run adds a letter to the "WORLD SERIES" spelled out on the backglass, a feature that carries over from game to game and awards 5 replays upon completion. The match feature can be set by the operator to either a traditional "Mystery Match" or a "Skill Match" mode, in which the match number is visible throughout play, giving skilled players an added strategic option in the final inning.

Sound is provided by two bells and a knocker. With its baseball theme and layered scoring and replay systems, 1962 World Series is a distinctive entry in Williams' early-1960s EM lineup.

Notable Features:
Ramps (3). The ramps are red in color. Scoring a Super Home Run in backbox adds 1 extra inning to the game and awards 3 or 5 replays (operator option). Beating the previous high score awards 5 replays (operator enabled). The high score feature resets to 20 runs when a certain high score level is hit (operator adjustable). A Grand Slam Home Run adds 1 letter to the name WORLD SERIES on the backglass. This is a carry-over feature from game to game and awards 5 replays upon completion (operator enabled). The match feature is operator adjustable for either of these two modes: Mystery Match - this is the traditional operation where a random match number lights up at the end of the game, awarding a replay if it matches the last digit of the score. Skill Match - the match number is illuminated throughout game play, changing constantly as the 0-9 unit advances. This changing number gives no award during play, but its visibility allows the player an additional strategy if the game play is on the last inning with 2 outs. Then, once the changing match number agrees with the last digit of the score, the player can purposely try to score the 3rd out to end the game in order to win the match award. However, the player might not want to end the game in this way if the scores are close to winning replays for runs or for beating high score. Sound: 2 bells, knocker.
