World Beauties
About This Machine
World Beauties, designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker, was manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in February 1960, with 900 confirmed units produced. It's a single-player electro-mechanical machine built around a Beauty Pageant theme, sharing the same playfield layout and ruleset as Gottlieb's 1959 'Queen of Diamonds.'
The machine features two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten standup targets, and three gobble holes. Eight stationary ball guides are shaped like flippers, adding a distinctive visual touch, and the backbox includes a mechanical animation in which a spinner changes card selections as the game progresses. The backglass carries Gottlieb's well-known slogan: 'Amusement Pinballs, as American as Baseball and Hot Dogs!'
As a Wayne Neyens design sharing mechanics with 'Queen of Diamonds,' World Beauties represents Gottlieb's approach to reusing successful playfield designs under new themes during this period of EM production.
