Wizard!
About This Machine
Wizard!, released by Bally Manufacturing Corporation in May 1975, is a four-player electro-mechanical machine designed by Greg Kmiec with artwork by Dave Christensen. The game was inspired by the 1975 movie 'Tommy' and features backglass likenesses of Roger Daltrey and Ann-Margret. With 10,005 confirmed units produced, it was a commercially successful title for Bally, arriving just two years before the company's shift to solid-state technology.
Gameplay includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, eight standup targets (one of which is recessed), eight star rollovers, a kick-out hole, and a spinning target, along with an end-of-ball bonus. Wizard! holds a notable place in pinball history as the first machine to use flip flags, a target device patented by Jeffrey D. Breslow of Marvin Glass & Associates. It was also the last Bally EM game to have its knocker located in the lower cabinet, before the component moved to the backbox in later EM titles.
With a maximum displayed score of 199,990 points per player and a distinctive licensed movie tie-in, Wizard! stands as one of Bally's most memorable EM titles from the mid-1970s.
