Wipe Out
About This Machine
Wipe Out, designed by Ray Tanzer and manufactured by Premier Technology (trading as Gottlieb) in October 1993, is a four-player solid-state machine built on the Gottlieb System 3 platform. Art was handled by David Moore, Constantino Mitchell, and Jeanine Mitchell, with dot-matrix animation by Rand Paulin, music by Duane Decker, and sound by Craig Beierwaltes.
The machine's signature mechanic is a ball-lift that simulates a ski lift, along with a player-controlled tilting slalom mini-playfield — a feature shared with only one other machine of the era, Williams' 1993 'Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure.' The playfield also includes three pop bumpers, two slingshots, seven standup targets, a 4-bank drop target, a vertical up-kicker, and support for 3-ball multiball.
With 2,150 confirmed units produced, Wipe Out is a solid-state game built around its winter-sports, ski-themed presentation, and its tilting slalom mechanism remains one of its most distinctive features among early-1990s Gottlieb titles.
