About This Machine

The 1934 A.B.T. Manufacturing Company 'Winner' is a pure mechanical, single-player pinball machine — predating the introduction of flippers, which would not appear in pinball until 1947. It reflects the earliest, purely mechanical phase of the game's development, when scoring was driven entirely by gravity, pins, and holes rather than powered mechanisms.

Gameplay centers on 41 gobble holes, which reward players with points as the ball drops into them, along with a score totalizer that kept a running tally for the player. The compact cabinet measured 40 by 42 by 19 1/2 inches. A.B.T. also sold the playfield separately so it could be installed in other cabinets built to accept a 17-by-34-inch playfield, a common practice for parts interchangeability at the time.

No theme or designer is documented for this machine, which is typical of many mechanical games from the early 1930s, when aesthetics and individual crediting were less emphasized than they would become in later decades.
