Winner
About This Machine
Winner, designed by Steve Kordek with art by Christian Marche, was manufactured by Williams Electronics in 1971, with 2,100 confirmed units produced. This widebody, horse racing-themed EM machine features a Revolving Center Ball Shooter - a turret shooter that sends the ball into play from between the lower flippers when the lockdown bar button is pressed - and a mechanical horse race animation under the playfield's Plexiglas.
The machine offers 3-or-5-ball play, and at the start of each game it automatically assigns each player a horse. Players advance their assigned horse toward the finish line by hitting the corresponding targets, aiming to beat their opponent's horse without letting it finish first. Winner features four flippers, two slingshots, two standup targets, and eight hanging targets, with a maximum displayed score of 199,990 points per player and a replay wheel maximum of 37.
The mechanical horse-race animation under Plexiglas, combined with the turret-style Revolving Center Ball Shooter, makes Winner a distinctive and mechanically ambitious widebody release from Williams' early-1970s EM lineup.
