About This Machine

The Wild Wild West pinball machine, designed by Ed Krynski with art by Art Stenholm, was manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in 1969, with 1,350 confirmed units produced. Its add-a-ball counterpart is Gottlieb's 1969 title 'Lariat.'

The two-player, Western-themed machine features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, two kick-out holes, and a distinctive pair of hold-over vari-targets. Unlike typical vari-targets, these did not score and reset upon being hit; instead, each target remained in its hit position until a ball landing in the adjacent kick-out hole collected the accumulated Target Value, functioning as a carry-over feature from player to player, with repeated hits able to increase the value before it was collected.

This hold-over carry-over target design gives Wild Wild West a distinctive strategic wrinkle within Gottlieb's Western-themed EM output, making it a machine of interest for collectors drawn to unusual scoring mechanics.

Flippers (2), Pop bumpers (3), Passive bumpers (2), Slingshots (2), Kick-out holes (2), Hold-over vari-targets (2). Unlike other games, the vari-targets did not score and reset upon being hit. Instead, each target remained in its hit position until a ball landing in the adjacent kick-out hole collected the Target Value. In this way, they were a carry-over feature from player to player. Repeated hits by either player could increase Target Value until collected.
