Wild Fyre
About This Machine
Wild Fyre, designed by Harry Williams and manufactured by Stern Electronics in 1978, is a solid-state (SS) pinball machine with a historical theme built around ancient Roman chariot racing. Its release in October 1978, with a production run of 2,400 confirmed units, places it among Stern's early solid-state lineup as the company built out its M-100 MPU-based games.
Wild Fyre features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, four kick-out holes, two standup targets, a spinning target, a 4-bank drop target, and a 3-bank drop target. This mix of targets and shot options gives players a varied layout to work through as they aim for high-scoring combinations. The machine has an actual measured weight of 207 pounds including legs.
One piece of trivia noted by IPDB: Service Bulletin #7A indicates Wild Fyre uses the same ROMs as Stern's 1979 game 'Dracula.' As one of Stern's Roman chariot-racing themed titles from the late 1970s, Wild Fyre remains an interesting find for collectors exploring the early solid-state era.
