About This Machine

White Water, designed by Dennis Nordman and released in January 1993 by Williams Electronics Games, is a solid-state electronic pinball machine on the WPC platform that stands out for its innovative gameplay features and immersive theme. Combining rafting and water-sports action with a myth-and-legend twist, White Water takes players down a virtual river complete with rapids and an interactive Bigfoot figure that must be distracted to let the ball into his cave. The game's design allows for three flippers, three pop bumpers, and an upper mini-playfield, providing multiple angles of attack and increasing replay value.

The gameplay itself is marked by several notable features that set White Water apart from its contemporaries. A left outlane kickback allows players to redirect balls back into play, while the "Whirlpool" funnel creates a challenging obstacle for the ball to navigate. Multiple ramps and Bigfoot's spinning, turning head for certain shots round out the game's toy-driven shot menu.

The backglass and translite art, painted by John Youssi, depicts Dennis Nordman's own 1952 Dodge panel truck, and Bigfoot is said to be modeled on Nordman's own likeness. White Water was a commercial success for Williams, with 7,008 units produced, and its memorable toy, tight shot layout, and rafting theme have made it a prized and enduringly popular machine among pinball enthusiasts today.
