Treasure Chest
About This Machine
Treasure Chest was manufactured by the Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) of Chicago in December 1947. It's a single-player, flipperless electro-mechanical machine with a deep-sea, mermaid-themed design, offering 5 balls for 5 cents.
The playfield includes 16 passive bumpers and two kick-out holes, but its standout feature is a diverter magnet: a button on the right side of the cabinet lets the player activate a 'Whirlpool' magnet in the lower playfield to redirect the ball's path, adding a layer of player-controlled strategy uncommon in flipperless games of the era.
With its underwater, mermaid-themed artwork and player-activated magnet mechanic, Treasure Chest is a distinctive late-1940s ESCO title, released just before flippers began to reshape pinball design industry-wide.
