Trap Shot
About This Machine
The 1936 Trap Shot is a single-player, flipperless electro-mechanical novelty game from Rock-Ola Manufacturing Corporation, built around a hunting-and-shooting theme, manufactured in November 1936.
Trap Shot's gameplay centers on 5-ball novelty play combined with a playfield time clock, adding a sense of urgency to each game. Its most distinctive feature is a playfield covered with numerous mechanical 'traps' that are knocked down as the ball strikes them; knocking down all the traps of a given kind lights the corresponding image on the backboard, tying the physical playfield action directly to the display.
Details of the machine's designer and specific artwork have not survived, but its trap-triggered backboard display and hunting theme make it a distinctive example of Rock-Ola's mid-1930s novelty-play design.
