Tramway
About This Machine
Tramway is an unusual entry in Williams' catalog: a transportation-themed electro-mechanical two-player game that was designed and assigned model number 385, but never actually entered production. Per Williams' Daily Production Log, 98 units were authorized on February 3, 1973, though none were built; surviving backglass and playfield artwork is dated 1972.
As designed, Tramway would have included two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, three kick-out holes, three standup targets, a right outlane ball-return gate, an up-post between the flippers, and an end-of-ball bonus - a fairly typical feature set for early-1970s Williams EM machines.
Because it never went into production, Tramway is essentially a prototype-only title, making any surviving example (rather than merely an original unit) a genuine rarity and a curiosity for collectors interested in unreleased pinball history.
