About This Machine

Torpedo!! is an electro-mechanical pinball machine from Recel S.A., a Spanish manufacturer that produced pinballs from 1974 to 1986. Released in 1976, it arrived during a period when electro-mechanical design, well established since the 1930s, was beginning to give way to solid-state electronics elsewhere in the industry. Recel was the export brand name for the game; the domestic version was sold as Petaco's 'Torpedo!!,' and a four-player edition was released as Recel's 'Underwater.'

Key features include two flippers, one pop bumper, two slingshots, two stand-up targets, a vari-target, a kick-out hole, a spinning target, and an upper-right ball-return rollunder. The wedge-head cabinet houses an electronic sound module, and the game includes an end-of-ball bonus.

While specific design credits are unknown, Torpedo!!'s combat theme and compact single-player layout are typical of Recel's output during the mid-1970s. As a relatively uncommon example of Spanish pinball manufacturing from this era, it offers enthusiasts insight into the industry outside the dominant American market.
