Torneo
About This Machine
The Torneo pinball machine, manufactured by Recel S.A. of Madrid, Spain in 1978, is a single-player, medieval-themed game built on a jousting and medieval-battle motif. Recel was the export brand name used by the company; the same game was sold domestically as Petaco's 'Torneo.' A four-player version is reportedly Recel's 'Fair Fight,' though this has not been confirmed by playfield comparison.
Gameplay features two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten stand-up targets, and two spinning targets, offering a fairly dense target layout for a single-player machine of its era.
Little is documented about the game's designer or specific production numbers, and its backglass art is shared with the 'Fair Fight' variant apart from the number of score displays. As a Spanish-made title from the late 1970s, Torneo offers a glimpse into pinball manufacturing outside the dominant American and European mainstream brands of the period.
