Top Row
About This Machine
The Top Row, manufactured by Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) in 1936, is an early one-ball payout pin table with an equestrian, steeplechase-racing theme. As a payout machine from the pre-flipper era of pinball, it reflects a simpler style of play than later flipper-equipped machines.
Gameplay on Top Row is straightforward: a single ball is played for five cents, with players' fortunes decided by where the ball settles on the pin-studded playfield, in keeping with the payout-machine format common in the 1930s.
The Top Row features an equestrian steeplechasing theme, a departure from the more common fruit or number-based themes found on many pin tables of the period. Little further information is documented about its designer, but the Top Row remains a piece of pinball history from the early, pre-flipper era of the game's development.
