Time Warp
About This Machine
The Time Warp, designed by Barry Oursler and produced by Williams Electronics starting September 21, 1979, is a solid-state electronic machine with a Mythology - World History theme. With 8,875 confirmed units produced, it was one of the more widely distributed Williams titles of its year.
The game offers two flippers, five pop bumpers, two slingshots, two kick-out holes, two standup targets, and a 5-bank and 3-bank drop target arrangement, rewarding players who can navigate its intricate layout. Many production units featured distinctive "banana" flippers.
The Time Warp's backglass is notable for featuring Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man -- possibly the only depiction of male nudity on a pinball backglass from a manufacturer. A quirk in the original playfield diagram, calling for a post that was sometimes omitted in production, was documented in a contemporary Amusement Review service column. Weighing 227 lbs and priced at $1,334.50 to distributors at the time, Time Warp remains a distinctive, well-documented entry in Williams' late-1970s lineup.
