About This Machine

Super Nova, designed by Al Gregg with art by George Molentin, was manufactured by Game Plan in 1980 - a period when solid-state (SS) electronics were already well established in the pinball industry. The machine leans into an outer-space theme, running on Game Plan's MPU-2 board, with 1,000 units confirmed produced.

The gameplay experience is characterized by its dynamic Spinning Space Lab target, a 12-position, 6-award wheel in the back-left corner of the playfield; hitting either of two targets sends it spinning for a random duration, with three awards visible at once and the middle one awarded. This feature, combined with three pop bumpers, two kick-out holes, and a rollunder spinner, creates an engaging, fast-paced layout alongside its two flippers.

Super Nova saw competitive use as well - it was used in qualifying at the 1980 US Open Pinball tournament at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, CT. Its outer-space art by George Molentin and mechanically varied Space Lab feature make it a distinctive entry in Game Plan's relatively short catalog of machines.
