Strike Zone
About This Machine
Strike Zone, designed by Norm Clark and manufactured by Williams Electronics in September 1970, is a two-player electro-mechanical (EM) machine built around a bowling theme, with artwork by Christian Marche.
The gameplay on Strike Zone is marked by its array of 10 rollover buttons arranged like bowling pins in the upper playfield, giving players multiple ways to score. Two flippers, four pop bumpers, four slingshots, and four standup targets round out the layout, along with an up-post between the flippers and a right outlane ball return gate. The game supports 3 or 5 ball play, with a replay wheel maximum of 37.
The design and art carry a clean, classic bowling aesthetic typical of Williams' sports-themed EM machines of the early 1970s. While detailed accounts of the machine's design history are limited, Strike Zone remains a solid example of Norm Clark's sports-themed EM output for Williams.
