About This Machine

Straight Flush, designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker, was manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in December 1957. This electro-mechanical, single-player machine carries a Playing Cards/Poker theme, complete with a backglass phrase declaring pinball 'As American as Baseball and Hot Dogs!' (A minor printing quirk: the Seven of Hearts card on the backglass has only six pips.)

The machine's features include two flippers, four pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, and three roto-targets, along with dual outlanes on both the left and right sides of the playfield. The backglass includes a light animation in which playing cards illuminate as part of the scoring display, tying the visual presentation directly to the poker theme.

Gottlieb produced 1,700 confirmed units of Straight Flush. It stands as a solid example of the company's late-1950s electro-mechanical output, blending a well-realized card-game theme with the mechanical features -- roto-targets, dual outlanes, and animated backglass lighting -- that defined Gottlieb's design language of the period.
