About This Machine

United Manufacturing Company's 1952 'Stars' is a single-player electro-mechanical bingo-style pinball machine. It holds a specific place in company history as the first United bingo game to use a conventional cabinet, arriving roughly a decade into the manufacturer's 1942–1962 run rather than at the very start.

Gameplay-wise, Stars features three cards, a Spottem scoring feature, and Double Score, mechanics typical of the bingo-pinball hybrids popular with United and its competitors in the early 1950s. These card-based and scoring-multiplier mechanics let players build up higher-value combinations across multiple plays.

Little further documentation survives about this particular machine's design team or original marketing, but as an early example of United's transition to conventional-cabinet bingo games, Stars is a notable piece in the lineage of the company's product line.
