Star Pool
About This Machine
Star Pool, designed by Harry Williams with art by George Molentin, was manufactured by Williams Manufacturing Company in July 1954. This single-player electro-mechanical machine carries a billiards theme, fitting for its era when flipper-equipped pinball had already become the industry standard.
Star Pool features two flippers, two pop bumpers, three passive bumpers, two slingshots, and two gobble holes. Its replay counter uses three digits specifically to accommodate the game's "Star Feature," a bonus tied to a second coin. The game shares its core design with Williams' own Cue-Tee, released the same year, though Cue-Tee lacks the Star Feature that distinguishes Star Pool.
The machine's design reflects its 1950s billiards theme, and as a product of designer Harry Williams — a pioneering figure in pinball's early development — Star Pool is a solid example of mid-1950s Williams craftsmanship, of interest to collectors focused on this era of EM pinball.
