Big Brave
About This Machine
Big Brave is a standout example of electro-mechanical pinball design from 1974, crafted by renowned designer Ed Krynski for Gottlieb, one of the most iconic manufacturers in pinball history, with artwork by Gordon Morison. As an EM machine produced in a confirmed run of 3,450 units, Big Brave represents the years just before solid-state machines transformed the industry. Notably, its 4-player counterpart was released the same year as Gottlieb's 'Big Indian'.
Gameplay on this 2-player machine is characterized by its two flippers, two pop bumpers, and two slingshots. Three star rollovers and two standup targets add variety, while the 5-bank of drop targets provides an opportunity for big scores. A vari-target - a target that registers different point values depending on how far the ball drives it back - rounds out the feature set, along with an end-of-ball bonus. The maximum displayed score is 99,990 points per player.
The American West theme, common in pinball design during this era, is executed with characteristic Gottlieb flair through Gordon Morison's artwork. For collectors and enthusiasts, this machine offers a glimpse into the evolution of pinball design during a transformative period in the hobby's history.
